Calchaquí Valley, Salta - Argentina

"Valle Arriba is a project that was born in 2005, founded by Paula Marra & Yeyé Dávalos with the aim of productively developing the upper Calchaquí valley, especially some hitherto unexplored terroirs. Micro-valleys with high oenological potential. Locally they are known as Valle Arriba."

100% Malbec, 14.5%. Soils are predominantly granitic sand and larger rocks. Altitudes are between 1800 – 2500m above sea level. Harvested by hand, fermented in stainless steel tanks for 10 days and aged in said tanks for 8 months. Aged a further 12 months in bottle before release. The wine has been subject to an undisclosed period of indigenous malolactic fermentation.

A rich purple wine with smooth tannins and good acidity, relatively short for a high-altitude malbec. Black fruits such a plum and blackberries open this wine, in conjunction with red jammy fruits which then gives way to creamy cheese and butter. Hints of oak, tobacco and bitter chocolate round out this Malbec.
