Mendoza
Located at the base of the Andes Mountains, this is the most important wine region in Argentina, producing 80% of the country's grapes. The hot, dry climate is moderated by high altitude, which causes grapes to mature slowly, creating optimal flavours. The primary grape grown in Mendoza is Malbec, but production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda, Tempranillo, Syrah and Chardonnay are also common.
Salta
Located in the north of Argentina, Salta is well known for having the highest vineyards in the world, growing vines 2000mts above sea level in the “Cafayate Valley”
Torrontes is the traditional white grape varietal from this region, which is taking the world by storm with its floral / aromatic nose and a delicate balance of fruit and acidity on the palate.
Malbec also grows in the region and because of the elevation, the vines are forced to protect themselves from the extreme weather, resulting in lower yields and thick skins which produces a uniquely concentrated full-bodied wines, that are also fragrant and with a very well-balanced natural acidity.
Rio Negro
The most southerly wine region in Argentina and one of the southernmost in the world. While the altitude is much lower than Mendoza, the cooler climate and optimal growing conditions provide a long growing season for wines with a balance of rich fruit and acidity. Cool-climate grapes thrive, including Pinot Noir, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
